The process
Sketch, approval, wall
Every wall goes through the same three stages, in the same order.
- 01
Step 1: 1. Sketch
We visit, measure and photograph the wall. Then we draw your idea on it.
A wall visit: size, surface, light and access
A color sketch, to scale, on a photo of your wall
Changes to the sketch, written into the proposal
- 02
Step 2: 2. Approval
Nothing is ordered until the right people have signed.
You sign the sketch and the written proposal
The building owner signs, if that isn't you
A city mural registration or an HOA sign-off, if the wall needs one
Paint is ordered only now
- 03
Step 3: 3. Wall
The crew prepares the wall, transfers the sketch and paints it.
Wash, patch and prime
The sketch transferred by grid or projector
Base colors, then detail, then sealer
A walk-through with you, then cleanup
The written proposal
What it states, line by line
So it can be read against the wall, and against any other proposal you have.
- 01
The wall
Where it is, how big it is and what it's made of.
- 02
Prep and repairs
Washing, patching, priming, and what we do if we find more.
- 03
The sketch
What it shows and how many changes it includes.
- 04
Paint and sealer
The type of paint and the clear coat, by name of product line, not brand.
- 05
The schedule
Days on site, the start window and the rain plan.
- 06
Approvals
Who signs, and which papers we line up.
- 07
Payment stages
When each payment is due, tied to the three stages.
- 08
Cleanup
What the wall and the sidewalk look like when we leave.
Your part
What we ask of you
Someone who can sign
One person who decides for the wall, and the owner's name if it isn't you.
Clear access
The wall free of cars, tables and stock on the days we're on site.
Water and power
A tap and an outlet nearby, or tell us and we bring our own.
The process
Questions about the steps
Will I see the design before you paint?
Yes. The sketch is drawn in color, to scale, on a photo of your own wall, and you sign it before any paint is bought. Changes to the sketch are written into the proposal.
What does the written proposal say?
The wall and its size, prep and repairs, the sketch and how many changes it includes, paint and sealer, the schedule, the approvals we line up, the payment stages and cleanup. It is the only paper we ask you to sign besides the sketch.
Who has to approve a wall?
You, and whoever owns the building if that isn't you. Some walls also need a city mural registration or a sign-off from an HOA or business district. We tell you which at the approval step, before paint is ordered.
Book the wall visit
The visit is where the sketch starts. Send a photo first and we'll set a day.
